I’ll admit it. I came for brunch.

I left talking just as much about the mansion as I did the food.

When people think about brunch, they usually picture a great meal and good company. Geordie’s at the Wrigley Mansion offers that, but it also gives you something you don’t find very often anymore: an experience.

Before we were even seated, we were invited to explore the mansion while we waited for our table. Instead of standing in a crowded lobby watching the minutes go by, we wandered through the home, taking in the architecture, the history, and the incredible views overlooking Phoenix.

Built in the 1930s by the family behind Wrigley chewing gum, the mansion has been beautifully preserved. One of my favorite things about traveling is visiting places with history, places that have stories to tell. Walking through the rooms of the Wrigley Mansion felt like stepping back in time, and I found myself slowing down to take in all the little details that made the home so special.

As someone who has spent years in the travel and hospitality industry, I couldn’t help but notice how intentional that experience was. Waiting for a table often feels like downtime. Here, it became part of the attraction. It set the tone before the first plate ever arrived and made the experience feel thoughtful from the very beginning.

Then came brunch.

Every plate that came out somehow looked even better than the last. From the savory dishes to the pastries, everything was as delicious as it was beautiful. It was one of those meals where you find yourself slowing down, taking another bite, chatting a little longer, and wishing brunch didn’t have to end.

And then there was the dessert room.

Yes, an entire room dedicated to desserts.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll tell yourself you’re just going to look. That plan probably won’t last very long.

One of my favorite touches was learning that guests are encouraged to take desserts home if they don’t finish them. Since everything is baked fresh, nothing goes to waste, and you don’t have to choose between trying one dessert or another.

We packed up a few desserts to take with us, and later that night I curled up in bed at the hotel with my slice of lemon cake while catching up on my favorite guilty pleasure shows on Bravo. Honestly, I still think about that little moment. Sometimes it’s the simplest memories that end up being your favorites.

What impressed me most wasn’t just the food. It was the way every part of the visit felt intentional.

From inviting guests to explore the mansion before their meal to encouraging them to enjoy dessert later if they’re already full, the experience goes beyond simply serving brunch. It creates memories, and that’s something I always pay attention to.

After more than a decade in the travel industry, I’ve learned that the places people remember most aren’t always the ones with the fanciest menu. They’re the ones that make people feel like the experience was designed with them in mind.
